Unleavened Bread and Water for Christ’s Body and Blood
Third Key: Unleavened bread and water for Christ’s body and blood (Matthew 26:26-28).
Almost every Christian believes that we have to eat of the Lord’s body and drink of his blood. The amazing difference is that different things are used to represent this blood. The purpose of this key is to unearth the real representative of Christ’ blood. We all know that our forefathers when they left Egypt they all ate the same spiritual bread and they all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from the same spiritual Rock and that Rock was Christ (I Corinthians 10:1-4). God is not a confused God; he cannot call any drink spiritual. There is only one spiritual drink, which the children of Israel drank. When we partake of the Lord’s Supper, we are eating and drinking from that Spiritual Rock which is Christ Jesus. Let us go back to the incident which Paul is talking about: (Numbers 20:7-8) clearly shows that they drank water from Christ. This is the spiritual drink. Water is spiritual because even the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters, (Genesis 1:2).
Jesus Christ is pure and the unleavened bread and water show this purity. He didn’t see corruption, (Psalms 16:10). Incorruptible things, unleavened bread and water represent him. There is no way that the Lord would use wine, which is a symbol of corruption to represent His atoning blood, He who saw no corruption. Wine, because it is fermented is a symbol of corruption.
Some people argue that Jesus used to drink wine. As we all have read, Jesus is our High Priest, (Hebrews 4:14) who makes intercession for our sins. The priests are forbidden to drink neither wine nor strong drink throughout all their generations (Leviticus 10:9-10). Jesus could not break this rule, He said, “If you keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and I abide in His love” (John 15:10). Jesus kept His father’s commandments and this commandment, which forbids priests to drink wine, is from His Father (Leviticus 10:8).
All those who have accepted Jesus have become part of the Royal Priesthood; therefore they should not drink wine. “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (I Peter 2:9).
Jesus promised eternal life to those who eat his flesh and drink his blood, (St.John 6:54), “Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day”. The Lord Jesus Christ, speaking to the woman at Jacob’s well said, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up to everlasting life” (St.John 4:14). There is eternal life promised in drinking water as followers of Christ, (St.Mark 9:41) reinforces this, “ For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.” The only time people could be given water because they belong to Christ is in a church service. Nearly all these other churches do not give their congregations water, instead they give them wine. Jesus Christ didn’t say wine; He said water. There is death promised in drinking wine, (Proverbs 31:4-7). This refers to people who have no hope in getting eternal life, one may choose to drink it but the scripture puts it clearly that there is no everlasting life for such people.
