Lord, send a revival

Posted by admin1 under: Devotions/Meditations .

And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again. And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived (I Kings 17:22).

There are times, even though we have done deeds of kindness and have served the Lord faithfully, we still find ourselves being confronted with trials and tribulations. This was the case with the widow at Zarephath (I Kings 17:1-24). After feeding Prophet Elijah during a sore famine, the widow’s son got sick to the point of death. The good acts of the widow did not protect her from trials and tribulations. It is in our hour of need, that we need our faith revived, so that amidst our trials, we still can hold on to the Lord.

Samson shove the hairs of his head, wherein his strength lied. After shaving his hair, he found out that the strength that he had to fight and defeat the Philistines was gone. The Philistines persecuted him and defeated him. He could not defend himself anymore. When Samson’s hair grew again his strength returned to him (Judges 16).  The strength that he had had before, was restored and revived. We cannot revive something which never existed in the first place. So we need to be in the Lord, to get our strength renewed (Isaiah 40:31) in trying times.

When we speak of the word revive, we mean something which was there and was lost. The widow’s son had life and lost it.  Samson had strength and lost it. To get his life back, it took Elijah to revive  the widow’s son to life. The problems and hardships of this world can take our faith away, and beat on our strength to believe in God. In such weak moments, we too need our strength renewed, and faith revived. The act of renewing and reviving, means there is value in what we are reviving. We must value our faith that when we are loosing it, we will want to restore it.

As it takes a conscious person to resuscitate a dead or unconscious person, so it takes the Spirit of God to revive  our dying faith within us. Revival brings  strength and joy, as our faith gets restored. Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? (Psalm 85:6). When our strength fail us, let us cry out to God and ask him to revive us and restore us (Psalms 23:3).

Meditation: Lord send a revival, and let it begin with me (song).

The need and source of a revival was well stated. I’m encouraged by the point that we need a source beyond us to be restored. I agee that this would be an active blog.
God bless.
