Reward for your labour (Part III)
Posted by admin1 under: Sermons .
For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting (Galatians 6:8).
What we will reap will be the direct results of what we have sown, the reward of our labour. What does sowing to the Spirit mean? Galatians 5:24 says: And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Sowing to the Spirit is leaving the world of sin, and walking in newness of life (Romans 6:4) by cultivating the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
We cannot walk in the Spirit, yet mind the things of the flesh. The Spirit and the flesh war against each other (Galatians 5:16-17). When we walk in the flesh we will sow to the flesh, do the things of the flesh and mind the things of the flesh “for they that after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh (Romans 8:5). The reward of the flesh is corruption, that is death. For the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). There is an alternative to the wages of sin if we choose to follow the Lord. God has eternal life for us. To receive eternal life we have to choose now between the flesh and the spirit.
Everyone will give account of himself to God (Romans 14:12). And I saw the dead small and great stand before God…and the dead were judged out of the those things which were written in the books, according to their works (Revelation 20:12). All men without exception, will receive what they have worked for. Our reward is related to the choice of labour. Choose this day whom ye will serve (Joshua 24:15).
To gain Christ and receive eternal life, we have to endure the sufferings of this life, overcome evil, be willing to give up our carnal ways in order to gain Christ and bear the cross (St. Matthew 16:24; St. Luke 14:27).
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58). There is a reward for us. It is not in this life. Our labour is not in vain in the Lord if we faint not (Galatians 6:9).
Man goeth forth unto his work …until the evening. When the evening of our lives come what shall our reward be? This life won’t last forever but our reward will last, our labour will last. Let each one of us ask himself, “where shall you be when the first trumpet sound? it will sound so loud it will wake all the dead, tell me where shall you be when the first trumpet sound?” (song). Let us labour for that reward which fadeth not away.
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them” (Revelation 14:13).
