Lord, teach us to pray (Part VII)

“But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking” (St. Matthew 6:7).
Words do matter, even in prayer. Although God knows our needs, still there is need for us to ask in prayer. The scripture tells us, “…ye have not, because ye ask not” (James 4:2) Part I.
Jesus went about healing people of all manner of diseases and infirmities. Though it was obvious these needed to be healed, Jesus still asked them what their desires were. Although God knows our needs and desires, there is still need for us, to confess our needs and desires with our own mouths, “for of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:45 ).
Words have power: ” Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” (Proverbs 18:21). Our words are the fruits and results of the depths of our thoughts and feelings. A preacher once said: “pray the answer and not the problem”. Jesus tells us the importance of asking thus expressing our needs: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock; and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (St. Matthew 7-8).
What is your desire, your dream? What is it that you really long for? Have you asked for it yet? “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). Have faith in God and in his mercies. Ask in faith believing. How will we know that God can supply all our needs, unless we ask? (Philippians 4:19), and how else shall we receive unless we ask?
