What shall I offer?

Posted By admin1 on January 26, 2009

“I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord” (Psalms 116:17).

We serve a loving and merciful God.  Who maketh his sun to rise  on the evil and the good: and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust (St. Matthew 5:45). God gives us everything we need and does not deal to us according to our sins (Psalms 103:10).  For somebody who gives so much unconditionally, each one of us must ask themselves, “what can I give back to God?”

God set an example for us by willingly giving us His only begotten Son (St. John 3:16) in addition to all other benefits, thus showing us love and mercy. Abraham was willing to offer his own son to God (Genesis 22). Shadrack, Mesheck and Abednego offered their lives (Daniel 3), the widow gave all her savings as an offering ( St. Mark 12:43).  All offered with their whole hearts. They offered all they had and did not withhold anything.

Sometimes our trials and tribulations make us think that we have nothing to offer to anybody, and certainly nothing to offer God. Deep in drought and famine, the widow of Zarephath thought the same (I Kings 17). But little did she know that the little that she had, once offered, will sustain a prophet and still be able to feed her and her son  until the drought has passed.

No matter where we are in life, no matter what we have or don’t have in material possessions, we still have a lot to offer.  Paul and Silas were in prison, they sang and praised and the prison doors were opened (Acts 16: 25-29). The young man who came to hear Jesus preach had only five loaves and two fishes (St. Matthew 14: 17-19). Would he have withheld his food, he would not have known that multitudes could be fed.  So what do you have to offer to God? Money is not the only thing to offer to advance the work of God. If you have time, skills, etc. all, can be offered to God and bring glory to his name.

Meditation: “Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me thy judgements” (Psalams 119:108).
