In the beginning

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day (Genesis 1:1-5).

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear (Hebrews 11:3).

Note: The bible teaches of a beginning which begins with the creation. This shows that God was already there in the beginning as the scripture says: Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God (Psalms 90:2).

The light was not from the sun, moon or stars because these were not yet created: These were created on the fourth day (Genesis 1:14-19) In the New Jerusalem, the city has no need of the sun to give light, nor the moon for God’s glory brings light and the Lamb, who was with God in the beginning, is the Light. Please read (St. John 1:1-9).

And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there (Rev 21:23-25).

When Christ who is the light of the world was hung on the cross, the sun refused to give light because a greater Light was accomplishing the mission of his Father (Luke 23:44-46). Also when the Son of man shall come in his glory, all the holy angels with Him, the sun shall be darkened, the moon shall not give her light, and stars shall fall from heaven, THEN, when all these earthly agents of light cease to be, then shall appear the sign of Christ in the clouds of heaven and the people shall see him because He himself is the light.

‘Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory’ (St. Matthew 24:29-30).

When the Lord shall reign, the sun and the moon shall be confounded and refuse to give their light because God will be the light (Isaiah 24:23). David declares ‘The Lord is my light and my salvation…” (Psalms 27:1). And prophet Micah proclaims, ‘Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me’ (Micah 7:8). The Lord coverest himself with LIGHT as a garment (Psalms 104:2).
