Where shall I flee?

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me (Psalms 139:7-10).
No matter where we go, no matter where we hide, we will never hide from the presence of the Lord. Adam and Eve knew a lot about the presence of God. God knew where they were, and that they were hiding from him in the garden. God asked them where they were. It is not because God did not know where they were. God asked to probe, so they can come forward with their sin. God knows all about us. He searches us and knows us altogether (Psalms 139:1, 4). After Cain slew Abel, God asked Cain where his brother Abel was. God already knew the answer. God asked so that Cain can search himself. Even though nobody sees us, even though nobody hears us. But God hears and sees us. We cannot hide from the presence of God.
Although Jonah served God and was used by God, he thought he could hide from the presence of God. Jonah thought he could run away from God, and God would not know where to find him. In defiance to the word of God, Jonah took a ship to Tarshish instead of Ninive. There in the raging seas, God’s presence was there, in an unexpected place. Where Jonah thought he was far away from the presence of God, but God’s hand got hold of him. He was swallowed by the big fish, and thus God detoured him, and redirected him to Ninive. As David says, if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there. Jonah could not run away from God. And neither can we. We can hide from one another, but not from the presence of God.
After killing Uriah, God sent Prophet Nathan to rebuke David and tell him of his sins. Like many of us, David was in secret, but even there, where nobody saw him, but God knew what David did. Whilst we can deceive one another, there is one whom we cannot deceive, because God is acquainted with all our ways. He knows our thoughts afar off, because even night shall be light unto God (Psalms 139:12).
Whether we do good we must know that God knows all about it. And whether we do evil, we cannot hide anything from the Lord. Job knew that there is no where to hide from the presence of the Lord. He witnessed saying, “behold my witness is in heaven and my record is on high” (Job 16:19).
