Train up a child (Part II)

Posted By admin1 on September 14, 2008

Parents are primary teachers in their children’s lives. It is their God-given duty and responsibility to train and bring up children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). The key is early intervention. Whilst other resources can be used, we will find that the Bible is a full and sufficient guide to help us achieve this objectives better (II Peter 1:20-21).

  • Make your home an extension of the Church (Joshua 24:15). Sing together, pray together and read the Bible together (Psalms 34:3). Create a spiritual atmosphere. Don’t meet God at Church the next Sabbath. Instead abide with him daily throughout the week (St. John 15:4).
  • Teach your children early in life (Proverbs 22:16) how to behave in the house of the Lord (Psalms 101:2). Dress them well. This will add to their attitude, and attitude will influence their conduct in the House of God.
  • Teach your children not to dwell on the “wrongs” of others. Rather, let them learn early on working on improving their own relationship and standing with God, and to work for their own soul salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).

We will continue in (Part III) of this lesson to share with parents ways of teaching our children as this is profitable to them, the family and community. “Come ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord” (Psalms 34:11; Psalms 111:10).
